Forge for Civil Infrastructure - AU continuous learning

Forge for Infrastructure

Autodesk University was a fully virtual, global event this year—with no cost to attend. That meant there was an extraordinary amount of product and feature announcements, customized learning content, and opportunities to meet and network with fellow professionals! But with the vast amount of content this year, it can be overwhelming to sort through it all. So we've created a few tailored lists of content specifically for professionals in the Civil Infrastructure industry to get the most out of Forge classes and programs this year.

Forge for Civil Infrastructure Program

The infrastructure industry is facing a daunting challenge. To meet the demands of population growth, we need to build enough roads and rail to circle the earth 30 times, 20,000 more bridges every year, and 2,600 km of underground utilities – every day! While the demand rises, the workforce is diminishing, and existing infrastructure is aging too. Those are the challenges, but we also see so much opportunity.

The industry’s digital transformation is helping to solve long-standing inefficiencies and problems, and this is where Forge comes in. The Forge platform enables entirely new ways of getting your megaprojects from design to completion. We’re showing you how in our Forge for Infrastructure Leadership Presentation at Autodesk University, featuring Theo Agelopoulos, Senior Director of Infrastructure Strategy & Marketing, and Jim Quanci, Senior Director of Forge Partner Development.

Norconsult

The Norconsult team was hired by the Norwegian New Road Authority to build a better road system to open up economic development for Western Norway. That task alone is no easy feat – but the Road Authority also wanted the project to be executed as economically, efficiently, safely, and environmentally friendly as possible.

Norconsult took the challenge and ran with it – the result: a digital, paperless and drawingless experience from start to finish. Using Forge APIs, Norconsult made all digital assets accessible from one source, on demand. They provided transparency into project processes, minimized risks and errors, and drove buy-in from stakeholders through their visual models and data.

Black & Veatch

Black & Veatch aims to be the most innovative and rapidly evolving company in the infrastructure space. They moved to a model-based design process, increasingly leveraging the intelligence built into these models for various tasks within a project, bringing connected workflow for creating design and construction documents, conducting material tacking and reducing errors and omissions.

Combining the capabilities of Forge, BIM 360 and Microsoft Azure, Black & Veatch are giving professionals access to data and visuals in a simple web browser. No training needed. Without Forge it would have been difficult to get near real-time updates from a desktop application such as Revit. Using BIM360 and Forge, they are able to pull updates frequently from these type of complex design files.

Want to learn how Forge can help you tackle your own challenges? Watch the Forge for Civil Infrastructure program below and learn how you can take advantage of accelerated digital transformation.

Forge for Civil Infrastructure classes

Looking to extend your learning with some classes specifically focused on Forge for Civil Infrastructure? You're in the right place! Here are some classes to help with Infrastructure-specific industry needs.

Revit, Forge, ERP - Smart solution for medium sized construction companies

As a family-owned and managed, medium-sized construction company, Grimm GmbH wanted to digitalize all their running corporate processes. So they developed a collaboration platform called "Zapper". This online solution, based on Autodesk Forge technology, allows the connection of deep Autodesk Revit knowledge with standardized ERP-Systems like Microsoft Dynamics 365.

This solution allows management, project partners, all employees and clients to collaborate simply and with high efficiency. Customers can easily access all the current project data, at any time, even on mobile. In this class, you learn how Grimm use their BIM models for planning, calculating, tendering and visualizing.

Virtual Construction-Site Management with Advanced Workflow in BIM 360

This class explains how to manage and improve the construction process of linear infrastructure projects with BIM 360 software in order to improve data quality and reduce costs and time by 60%. The digitalization of these processes enables us to retrieve relevant data and information directly in the construction site, reducing wastefulness and promoting sustainability.

Three process were implemented for these projects: the quality check, the inspection survey in BIM 360 Field, and the design variation check. The workflows are valid either if the project has been developed with BIM methodology or through the traditional method. The management of the company can use data and statistics to analyze the progress and the status of the works through powerful dashboards made with Forge. We will show the workflows improvements with a clear metric analysis.

Forging BIM Configurator for HVAC Systems

The industry is moving from mass production to customized solutions, creating a tremendous increase in the demand for custom BIM (Building Information Modeling) software solutions. However, custom solutions are expensive to develop. With Forge, you can build custom BIM configurators with minimum investment and time.

CCTech created a custom simulation app for HVAC professionals to produce a sustainable design. The app simulates the performance of design spaces and HVAC systems configuration in the cloud. The class demonstrates how to use Forge to create a new user-defined office build space. They elaborate on how the assembly of complex 3D HVAC system configurations can be created. You will see how Revit design automation APIs can construct an accurate intelligent model on the server.

Convergence

The way forward is to challenge how we do things, rethink our agility and productivity, and harness technology. As that happens, we’re seeing compressed or new processes emerge, and tighter connections between industries take shape. This phenomenon, in a word, is convergence. In this new era of convergence, workflows are coordinated and seamless, products are customized on demand, virtual creation gives us actionable insights, and continuous reshaping brings forward a never-ending cycle of improvement.

In the era of convergence, supply chains will be forever shorter and more resilient through collaboration between AEC and manufacturing companies and their suppliers. People will be able to make and build things that are more sustainable and better fit customers’ wants and needs.

Check out the class All You Ever Wanted to Know About Convergence—and Why You Should Care to learn all the possibilities that can come from stepping outside of your comfort zone and merging once-disconnected processes and industries.
